Ingredients
Step 1 — For the Beef Marinade
- 1 lb flank steak or sirloin steak, thinly sliced against the grain
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp sesame oil
Step 2 — For the Stir-Fry Sauce
- 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 1/4 cup beef broth
- 2 tbsp oyster sauce (optional, for depth)
- 1 tbsp honey or brown sugar
- 1 tsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Step 3 — For the Stir-Fry
- 2 tbsp cooking oil (like vegetable or canola)
- 1 lb broccoli florets
- Cooked rice for serving
Instructions
- 1
Marinate Beef
In a bowl, combine sliced beef with soy sauce, cornstarch, and sesame oil. Toss to coat evenly. Let marinate for at least 15 minutes while you prepare the sauce and broccoli.
- 2
Prepare Stir-Fry Sauce
In a separate small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, beef broth, oyster sauce (if using), honey, cornstarch, ginger, and garlic until well combined. Set aside.
- 3
Blanch Broccoli (Optional but Recommended)
Bring a small pot of water to a boil. Add broccoli florets and cook for 1-2 minutes until bright green and slightly tender. Drain immediately and rinse with cold water to stop the cooking. This helps keep broccoli crisp and vibrant.
- 4
Sear Beef
Heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat until shimmering. Add the marinated beef in a single layer (cook in batches if necessary to avoid crowding). Sear for 1-2 minutes per side until browned but still slightly pink inside. Remove beef from skillet and set aside.
- 5
Stir-Fry Sauce and Broccoli
Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of cooking oil to the skillet. Pour in the prepared stir-fry sauce and bring to a simmer, stirring constantly until it thickens, about 1 minute. Add the blanched broccoli and toss to coat.
- 6
Combine and Serve
Return the seared beef to the skillet with the broccoli and sauce. Toss quickly to combine and heat through, about 30 seconds to 1 minute. Serve immediately over cooked rice.
