Ingredients
Step 1 — For the Taco Filling
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 packet (1 oz) taco seasoning
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 (15 ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained
Step 2 — For Serving
- 8-12 taco shells (hard or soft)
- Shredded lettuce
- Diced tomatoes
- Shredded cheddar cheese
- Sour cream or Greek yogurt
- Salsa
- Optional: chopped cilantro, avocado slices

Brown the Beef
In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess grease.

Add Aromatics and Seasoning
Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant. Sprinkle the taco seasoning over the beef mixture and stir to coat.

Simmer with Beans
Pour in the water and bring to a simmer. Stir in the rinsed and drained black beans. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened and the flavors have melded.

Assemble Tacos
Warm taco shells according to package directions. Spoon the beef and black bean mixture into the taco shells. Let everyone customize their tacos with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, sour cream, salsa, and any other desired toppings.
