Ingredients
Step 1 — Make the filling
- 1.5 lbs ground lamb
- 1 onion (diced)
- 2 carrots (diced)
- 2 celery stalks (diced)
- 3 garlic cloves (minced)
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp fresh thyme
- 1 cup frozen peas
- Salt and pepper
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Step 2 — Mashed potato topping
- 2 lbs russet potatoes (peeled)
- 4 tbsp butter
- ½ cup warm milk
- ½ cup cheddar (grated)

Cook the filling
Brown lamb in oil, breaking up. Add onion, carrot, and celery. Cook 8 minutes. Add garlic, tomato paste, broth, Worcestershire, and thyme. Simmer 15 minutes. Stir in peas. Season.

Make mashed potatoes
Boil potatoes until tender. Mash with butter, milk, and cheddar until smooth. Season.

Assemble and bake
Spread filling in a baking dish. Pipe or spread mashed potato over top. Bake at 400°F 25–30 minutes until golden and bubbling.
