Currywurst
Berlin's iconic street food — steamed then grilled bratwurst sliced and drenched in a spiced tomato-curry ketchup. Served with Pommes Frites and extra curry powder on top.

Ingredients
Step 1 — Make the curry ketchup
- 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp honey or sugar
- 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp curry powder
- ½ tsp chili powder
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper
Step 2 — Cook the sausages
- 8 bratwurst or Bockwurst links
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
Step 3 — Serve
- French fries (Pommes Frites)
- Curry powder (for dusting)
- Brötchen (optional)

Make the curry ketchup
Simmer all sauce ingredients in a saucepan 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thick and glossy. Blend smooth if desired. Keep warm.

Cook the sausages
Simmer sausages in water 8 minutes. Pat dry, then grill or pan-fry in oil until browned and crisp, about 5 minutes.

Serve Berlin-style
Slice sausages into bite-sized pieces on a plate. Pour warm curry ketchup over top and dust generously with curry powder. Serve with fries and a roll.
