Ingredients
Step 1 — For the Meatballs
- 1 lb ground chicken
- 1/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped onion
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Step 2 — For the Sauce and Assembly
- 1 cup your favorite BBQ sauce
- 4 sub rolls or hoagie buns
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella or provolone cheese
- Optional: pickle slices or coleslaw for topping

Mix Meatball Ingredients
In a large bowl, gently combine ground chicken, panko breadcrumbs, beaten egg, chopped onion, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Do not overmix.

Form Meatballs
Roll the mixture into about 16-20 small meatballs (about 1-inch diameter).

Air Fry Meatballs
Preheat air fryer to 370°F (185°C). Place meatballs in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook for 10-12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until cooked through and lightly browned.

Sauce and Toast
In a bowl, toss the cooked meatballs with the BBQ sauce until evenly coated. Slice the sub rolls lengthwise, leaving one side attached if possible. Spoon the BBQ chicken meatballs into the rolls, top with shredded cheese. Place the stuffed rolls back into the air fryer basket (or on a baking sheet if needed). Cook at 350°F (175°C) for 3-5 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
