Step 1 — Pie crust
- 2 pie crusts (homemade or store-bought)
- 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp coarse sugar (for topping)
Step 2 — Apple filling
- 6 medium apples (peeled and sliced)
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter (cubed)

Prepare the filling
Preheat oven to 425°F. Toss apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Let sit 10 minutes.

Assemble and bake
Line a 9-inch pie dish with one crust. Add filling and dot with butter. Cover with top crust or lattice. Crimp edges, brush with egg wash, and sprinkle coarse sugar. Bake 15 minutes, then reduce to 375°F and bake 40–45 minutes until bubbling and golden. Cool 2 hours before slicing.
